ABOUT THE SHOW: Jason Robert Brown says, "it's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back." These are the stories and characters of today, the SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD.

Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue to meet a startling array of characters ranging from a young man who has determined that basket-ball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams and a soulless marriage.

With a small, powerhouse multi-ethnic cast and a driving, exquisitely crafted score running the gamut of today’s popular music, SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD is a great way to bring the next generation into the theatre.

Taylor Hamlet

Taylor is thrilled to be kicking off her senior year by performing in her second City Stage show. She was last seen in City Stage’s production of Next to Normal as Natalie. She has also been seen around Wilmington in T.A.C.T.’s production of Little Shop of Horrors, Upper Room Theatre’s production of Fiddler on the Roof, and in various MGMS productions. Taylor is also involved in the Hoggard Voyagers, the Field Studio (specializing in voice), and Hoggard Student Council. She would love to thank David, Justin, and Chiaki for giving her another fabulous opportunity to perform with City Stage. She would also love to thank the wonderful cast of Songs for a New World for making each rehearsal a joy.

Katherine Vernon

Katherine has been performing in Wilmington for over 15 years, most recently as Diana in City Stage's production of "Next to Normal", M'Lynn in "Steel Magnolias", and Joy Gresham in "Shadowlands". She is thrilled to be the comic relief this time. Previous roles include Nan/Lina in "Three Days of Rain", Mrs. Walker in "The Who's Tommy", Mae in "Reefer Madness: The Musical", and the Witch in "Into the Woods". She also usually turns up as one of the Ho Ho Hos in City Stage's annual production of "Santaland Diaries". This is her second time around in "Songs for a New World" (same songs). Many thanks to David, Chiaki, and this lovely cast for being such fun. And of course, thanks as always to her husband, Alex, for his love and support.

Brit Garner

Brit Garner is currently finishing her M.S. in marine biology at UNCW and living a rogue theatre life on the side. Recent credits include "Working" (Maggie Holmes), "Pippin" (Fastrada), and "Hair" (Mom/tribe). This is her first show with City Stage (yay!) and she is beyond grateful for the chance to work with such inspiring and professional people. Thanks goes to Mom for the love of music, Dad for the love of theatre, and everyone else for not yelling at me to go back to the lab instead of rehearsing.
