True West

Cullen Moss

Cullen is so happy and excited to be a part of this wonderful, crazy, and exhausting story, and to be acting with such a talented and dynamic cast. He has appeared in a number of other theatrical productions in town and was a member of the long-running comedy troupe, Changing Channels. Favorite roles include: Burrhead, in Lost Highway; Rick (and others), in Debbie Does Dallas, The Musical; Romeo, in Romeo and Juliet; Speed, in Zombie Attack!; Ned and Walker, in Three Days of Rain; Stanley, in A Streetcar Named Desire; Joe Farkus, in The Last Night of Ballyhoo; and, most recently, Bill, in Lobby Hero. Cullen has also worked in film and television, "where the big money is". He played "Junk" for eight seasons on "One Tree Hill", and has had roles in "The Notebook", "Blood Done Sign My Name", "Dear John", "The Conspirator", and the award-winning indie, "To.Get.Her". Cullen would like to thank Gil for his artictic hocus pocus; his good pal, Shane, for being so damn good and not actually killing him; and Madison and Dixon, for, once again, sharing him with the stage.

Shane Callahan

Shane Callahan grew up in Titusville, PA.  He's performed in The Lost Highway and Three Penny Opera for CityStage.  Locally, he has also appeared in an episode of One Tree Hill.  He has a lead role in a movie called "Forgotten Pills."  It has recently been released on DVD.

City Stage, under its parent company, Cape Fear Theatre Arts, is proud to present the production of Tony Award-nominated True West by Sam Shepard, as the inaugural show in their debut 2011 Thalian Hall Studio Season.

One of Shepard’s finest plays, True West is a visceral display of sibling rivalry, as darkly funny as it is unnerving. Austin is a successful family man making his living as a Hollywood screenwriter while his older, estranged brother Lee is a vagabond and thief, drifting across the American desert. Lee unexpectedly drifts back into Austin’s life, and after charming his brother’s movie producer boss, is given the opportunity at a movie deal of his own, at Austin’s loss. As the brothers unravel at breakneck speed, violently entangling each other in their own respective failures, this tale of classic sibling contention brings to light a family portrait capable of reminding us all from where we came.

True West is directed by Gil Johnson, and stars Shane Callahan and Cullen Moss. Both actors are well-known for their work on the stages of Wilmington, and Moss, notably for his recurring role as Junk Moretti on the CW’s One Tree Hill, as well as the recent film that won the Best of NEXT! Audience Award at Sundance, to.get.her.

The May 4th performance is a special preview with all net proceeds benefiting the Japanese Red
